Gan 1961 - 1962
I was posted to Gan in June 1961 and was there until May 62.  The year I was there was the year when the people from Male came down to Gan to protest about wanting more of the share of the benefits the locals enjoyed because of our presence.  This 'Uprising' coincided with a visit to the Island by Hammond Innes who was working on his book 'The Strode Venturer'.
The photos I attach are a mixed lot - I have added titles to the pictures but they may not appear at your end!.  The 'Sepia' coloured pictures are scanned from old photos, the black and whites are scanned from negatives and the coloureds' are from transparencies. There are only a few people whose name I remember unfortunately but perhaps some people will know who they are.  The Club 51 pictures are of our bar built for Christmas '61 and the inspection by the CO and officers, I seem to remember we came 2nd.
